As major brands like Dentsply, Sirona and Kerr have discontinued their production of amalgams, Silmet continues to lead the way to exceptional commitment to quality and innovation. With over 40 years of experience, Silmet is backed by extensive research and development. All their products including amalgam are developed and manufactured in house. Silmet offers both Fast and Regular Set Amalgams to ensure that dentists have access to reliable, high-performance materials for their practices.
Over half of dentists in the United States still use Amalgam because it’s a very easy to use material to fill cavities. For those who don’t know amalgam is a filling material used to fill cavities caused by tooth decay. Amalgam is a mixture of metals, consisting of mercury and a powdered alloy composed of silver, tin and copper. Dental amalgam is a dental filling material used to fill cavities caused by tooth decay. The chemical properties of elemental mercury allow it to react and bind together with the powdered metal alloy to form an amalgam. The dentist first drills the tooth in order to remove the decay and then shapes the tooth cavity for the proper placement of the amalgam filling. Then the dentist mixes the encapsulated powdered alloy with liquid mercury to form an amalgam putty. This softened amalgam putty is placed and shaped in the prepared cavity where it rapidly hardens into a solid filling.
As you can see this process is very simple and effective, resulting in less time for the patient to be in your chair with accurate long term results.
